Numbered Days

Life is short.

Let’s say that you live to be 75 years old, which is generally considered to be the average human lifespan. If you’re already past that age, like at least a few of my readers, then I commend you. Congratulations on your long life. What’s scary is, I’ve already lived a full third of my life if we judge it by these metrics. If you’re below the number 75, I’d like you to consider something…

If you lived to be 75, you will have lived 27,375. Now, that may seem like a massive number of days, but if you think about it, it’s really not. Each and every midnight, while you’re quietly asleep, another digit ticks away from that total, reminding us that we’re mortal.

And, by the way, my number is down to 18,980. *Quivers*

27,375 is not that large of a number anyway. You probably speak that many words in a day. You write that many words in a month. That’s 1/5 the total number of words on this blog. But we can turn the disadvantage of mortality into an advantage because that number is not so huge it can’t be cataloged. And a cataloged life is a fulfilled life, especially for a completionist like me. Some think the car was the greatest invention, others think electricity. But I think that honor goes to the journal. Life is filled with so much good and bad. To be able to look back to the past and reassociate yourself with the positive and negative accomplishments can truly remind you of who you are. You are still the same soul you were ten years ago, whether you feel like it or not. Too often, we forget the fact the we were stressed out with problems, and then we got through it. Too often, we forget the joy of a single moment, reserving each moment of inactivity for anxiety. So live life! And make it a goal to remember reach day.

About the photo: “Ages” It kind of looks like Alex is staring through time. The only question: Is she staring into the future or into the past? Or maybe she’s just telling me to get the camera out of her face. That’s probably it.

Starbucks, Starbucks, Starbucks… nope, no good news articles for me to use on today’s Daily Post prompt. Sorry.
