Where, Oh Death, Is Your Sting?

“Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”
1 Corinthians 15:15

Death is against my very nature as an optimist, an artist, and a deep thinker. I don’t understand it. It makes no sense. As a person who looks hard into the patterns of life, trying to understand the complexities of humanity, for someone to be taken seemingly at random is just impossible.

We’ve lost so many lately in our community, and now suddenly to lose another can just make you hurt. But it can make you hurt it the worst possible way. It can make you almost used to it. It can make it expected. It can make you desensitized. Desensitized, but never quite immune. It still hurts, and each and every time it creeps closer to you in just the wrong ways.

She didn’t do anything wrong. I knew her, and at times in my life I knew her well. I will not disrespect her to say that we were very close, but she was important to me in the days of my youth. She was always there in my church’s various functions, being an important role model in how to serve Christ without the need for acknowledgement or fame. She was, by all accounts, an amazingly God-centered woman. I don’t understand why she had to die… it just doesn’t compute.

What great victory did death accomplish by taking her? How has it triumphed in its task to reign down objective justice? It seems like all it accomplished was to take an amazing person and vastly reward her with the riches and splendor of Heaven. And because of this I feel death has lost a very foolish, very untimely, very confused battle.

Where is death’s sting? It must be with us, those who must live in a world without her brilliant presence. Because I know without a doubt that she is spending an eternity with Jesus, the angels, and eventually everyone who loved her.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Lassiter’s family, as well as the many people who were close to her.

I like this picture. The sunset reflected in the glass of a locked door seems kind of ominous.

Sorry, Daily Post, today is no day to write about pop songs.
