So You’re from Alabama? Oh.

Where the heck did this even come from? Why is Alabama somehow the whipping boy for the United States of America? What did we do…

OH.. …

Is it the fact the we’re the second fourth most obese state in the U.S, the fact that we were the last place to consider the idea of racial equality, and the fact that many of us don’t take education very seriously?

Well that explains that, but still. Surely we as a country have the capability to see the we are not:
ALL Racists
and ALL Stupid.

And besides, Alabama is not a bad place to be. It’s beautiful, we’ve got six thriving population centers (Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, Huntsville, Auburn/Opelika, and Dothan), two highly regarded universities (Alabama and Auburn), and very kind people. I’m not sure I’d want to live in any other state.

So WHY do I feel so stereotyped? Here I am, writing blog entries every day. I’m trying to make this thing a nation-wide success. I want A Link to the Matt to be part of internet meme-dom. Why is it that I feel like the most difficult thing about overcoming those odds isn’t my writing, or my layout, or my skills? It’s the fact that I’m from Alabama. And the only thing anyone cares about from Alabama is Channing Tatum.

We are all as fantastic as we choose to be. Location and culture need not matter.

    • Thanks Stef! But… EPIC ENGLISH CORRECTION FAIL! You said county, which is different than country. I’m from Elmore County, not Elmore Country.
*Humbly goes and corrects misspelling of the word surely.
